NLTE line formation

open access: yesPhysica Scripta, 2008
I review some of the present achievements and future challenges of non-local thermodynamicequilibrium (NLTE) line-formation calculations for solar-type stars.

The Formation of Spectral Lines

Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1971
This review is addressed to the nonspecialist reader and is intended to provide an intro duction to the physi cs a nd ph enomenology of the radiation field in spectral lines. Results that give the maxi mum insight are stressed and selected , while technical details are suppr essed. Because of restrictions on space and because of the appearance or pr om

On Line Monitoring of Acrylamide Formation

2006
A system to monitor the formation of acrylamide in model systems and from real food products under controlled conditions of temperature, time and moisture content has been developed. By humidifying the gas that flows through the sample, some control over moisture content can be affected. Results are presented to show the validity and reproducibility of

Formation of Emission Lines

2007
When we consider the radiation fields of stellar envelopes exposed to the photospheric UV radiation, the basic feature is their anisotropic nature. The degree of anisotropy is expressed by the geometrical dilution factor, W, defined as the ratio of the solid angle, ω, of the photosphere seen from a point of interest, P, relative to the total solid ...

Transient formation of forbidden lines

Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, 1996
An explanation of anomalously long time scales in the transient formation of forbidden lines is proposed. The concept is based on a collisionally induced density dependence of the relaxation times of metastable level populations in transient plasma. Generalization leads to an incorporation of diffusion phenomena. We demonstrate this new concept for the
