A view of PKS 2155-304 with XMM-Newton Reflection Grating Spectrometers

open access: yes, 2003
We present the high resolution X-ray spectrum of the BL Lac object PKS 2155-304 taken with the RGS units onboard XMM-Newton in November 2000. We detect a OVII Kalpha resonant absorption line from warm/hot local gas at 21.59A (~4.5 sigma detection).

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Deuterated molecules in DM Tau: DCO+, but no HDO

open access: yes, 2006
We report the detection of the J=2-1 line of DCO+ in the proto-planetary disk of DM Tau and re-analyze the spectrum covering the 465 GHz transition of HDO in this source, recently published by Ceccarelli et al. (2005).

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Observation of H_2O in a strongly lensed Herschel-ATLAS source at z = 2.3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Herschel survey, H-ATLAS, with its large areal coverage, has recently discovered a number of bright, strongly lensed high-z submillimeter galaxies.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Wrinkle Detection Using Hessian Line Tracking

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2015
Wrinkles play an important role in the face-based analysis. They have been widely used in applications, such as facial retouching, facial expression recognition, and face age estimation. Although a few techniques for a wrinkle analysis have been explored

Multi-line detection of O_2 toward ρ Ophiuchi A [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Context. Models of pure gas-phase chemistry in well-shielded regions of molecular clouds predict relatively high levels of molecular oxygen, O_2, and water, H_(2)O.

Detection of an H-alpha Emission Line on a Quasar, RX J1759.4+6638, at z=4.3 with AKARI

open access: yes, 2007
We report the detection of an H-alpha emission line in the low resolution spectrum of a quasar, RX J1759.4+6638, at a redshift of 4.3 with the InfraRed Camera (IRC) onboard the AKARI.
