An extension of the basic local independence model to multiple observed classifications

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The basic local independence model (BLIM) is appropriate in situations where populations do not differ in the probabilities of the knowledge states and the probabilities of careless errors and lucky guesses of the items. In some situations, this is not the case. This work introduces the multiple observed classification local independence model

Optimal control for high-precision repeat ground-track orbits via convex optimization

open access: yes工程科学学报
To satisfy the stringent accuracy requirement of maintenance for repeat ground-track (RGT) orbits, a differential algebra-based semi-analytical method is proposed for the orbit design and control while considering high-fidelity geopotential dynamics with

A Tutorial on Polynomial Regression through Linear Algebra

open access: yes, 2018
This is a tutorial on polynomial regression. Three different methods for fitting paired data to a polynomial are presented. The first two methods are based on linear algebra while the last one is a graphic solution. These methods can be easily implemented with Excel, by writing a computer program, or with a programmable calculator.

Kronecker Product based Stability Tests and Performance Bounds for a Class of 2D Continuous-Discrete Linear Systems

open access: yes, 2002
This paper reports further development of the so-called 1D Lyapunov equation based approach to the stability analysis of differential linear repetitive processes which are a distinct class of 2D continuous-discrete linear systems of both practical and ...

Bayesian inference for dynamic Q matrices and attribute trajectories in hidden Markov diagnostic classification models

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Hidden Markov diagnostic classification models capture how students' cognitive attributes evolve over time. This paper introduces a Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for diagnostic classification models that jointly estimates time‐varying Q matrices, latent attributes, item parameters, attribute class proportions and transition ...

Bias and precision in true‐score estimation

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract We discuss two approaches to estimating the true score from classical test theory, each with a corresponding measure of uncertainty due to measurement error: the classical method with the standard error of measurement (SEM) and Kelley's method with the standard error of estimation (SEE).

Computing Skinning Weights via Convex Duality

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We present an alternate optimization method to compute bounded biharmonic skinning weights. Our method relies on a dual formulation, which can be optimized with a nonnegative linear least squares setup. Abstract We study the problem of optimising for skinning weights through the lens of convex duality.

Neural Local Inter‐reflection Modeling for Garment Fold Rendering

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Realistic garment rendering requires simulating complex multi‐bounce light paths within intricate fold geometries. In these regions, conventional path tracing is computationally expensive as light becomes trapped, necessitating high bounce counts for convergence.
