On Unbiased Linear Approximations
2010In this paper we explore the recovery of key information from a block cipher when using unbiased linear approximations of a certain form. In particular we develop a theoretical framework for their treatment and we confirm their behaviour with experiments on reducedround variants of DES.

Linear approximation of approximately linear functions
Aequationes mathematicae, 2003The author generalizes a theorem of \textit{M. Laczkovich} [ibid. 58, No.~1--2, 135--142 (1999; Zbl 0934.39013)] by proving an interesting theorem concerning a kind of local stability of the Jensen's functional equation. He also applies his result to the investigations of \(\varepsilon\)-rigid mappings, \(\varepsilon\)-isometries and \(\varepsilon ...

Linear Automata Approximation Problem
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1974The problem of approximating a linear automaton (LA) over the field of real numbers by an automaton over the field of rationals is considered. "Strong" and "weak" types of approximation are defined and investigated. Necessary and sufficient conditions for an automaton to be approximable are given.
