ABSTRACT The safe operation of aging steel railway bridges requires reliable fatigue assessment of welded structural details. Welded longitudinal stiffeners, while not directly loaded, influence structural stiffness and are susceptible to fatigue cracking at weld transitions.

ABSTRACT The fatigue and fracture behavior of self‐piercing rivet (SPR) joints between AA6016 aluminum sheets (1–2 mm) and DX54D steel (0.95 mm) was studied under 90°, 45°, and 0° multiaxial loading. Pure shear (90°) loading produced the highest fatigue strength, whereas multiaxial (45°) loading resulted in reduced performance, with pure tension (0 ...

Simulation of sheet-titanium forming of welded blanks [PDF]
The increase in demand for the light and tough drawn-parts causes the growing interest in sheet metal forming of Tailor-Welded Blanks (TWB). Application of such blanks allows for achieving in one operation the drawn-parts characterized by diverse ...

The Support Paradox: Explaining (Mis)Matches in Refugee Workplace Support
Abstract Recent refugee movements have spurred corporate initiatives, with workplace support proving critical for integration. However, while research on workplace support for refugees remains limited, the broader support literature highlights paradoxical effects – support either benefits or harms recipients depending on how well it matches their needs.

Mechanical loss in state-of-the-art amorphous optical coatings
We present the results of mechanical characterizations of many different high-quality optical coatings made of ion-beam-sputtered titania-doped tantala and silica, developed originally for interferometric gravitational-wave detectors.
