Finite Element Simulation of Linear Friction Welding

The complete process of linear friction welding of titanium alloy TC17 is simulated using the finite element analysis software ANSYS in this paper. A full structural-thermal coupled transient model is also developed. The results of the temperature field and stress field are discussed.

Over conventional joining methods, linear friction welding (LFW) exhibits a high weld quality and economical benefits for the aerospace industry.
