Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Performance of a Direct-Driven Wave Energy Point Absorber with High Inertia Rotatory Power Take-off

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
An alternating rotatory generator using an eddy current break is developed as a physical scale model of a direct-driven floating point absorber power take-off (PTO) for wave tank tests.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Maximum Power Point Tracking for a Point Absorber Device with a Tubular Linear Switched Reluctance Generator

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
This paper addresses the control of a Tubular Linear Switched Reluctance Generator (TLSRG) with application in a point absorber device. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) strategy is proposed to maximize the power extraction from ocean waves.

LINEAR DISCRETE CONVOLUTION AND ITS INVERSE. PART 1. CONVOLUTION [PDF]

open access: yes
We present here several ways of calculating the linear discrete convolution, its inverse - the deconvolution, by direct methods, generator functions, Z-transform, using matrices and MATLAB.

Generalized Joint Linear Complexity of Linear Recurring Multisequences

open access: yes, 2008
The joint linear complexity of multisequences is an important security measure for vectorized stream cipher systems. Extensive research has been carried out on the joint linear complexity of N-periodic multisequences using tools from Discrete Fourier transform.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effect of load current harmonics on vibration of three-phase generator

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Almost all today electrical loads are considered non-linear such as switch mode power supply (SMPS) for powering computer and mobile phone or variable speed drive (VSD) for driving home and industrial electric motors.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
