Linear Inequality Concepts and Social Welfare [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper presents an abstract definition of linear inequality concepts leading to linearly invariant inequality measures and characterizes the class of linear concepts completely. Two general methods of deriving ethical measures are proposed. They imply

Stable matchings and linear inequalities

open access: yesDiscrete Applied Mathematics, 1994
AbstractThe theory of linear inequalities and linear programming was recently applied to study the stable marriage problem which until then has been studied by mostly combinatorial methods. Here we extend the approach to the general stable matching problem in which the structure of matchable pairs need not be bipartite. New issues arise in the analysis

Inference with Linear Equality and Inequality Constraints Using R: The Package ic.infer [PDF]

open access: yes
In linear models and multivariate normal situations, prior information in linear inequality form may be encountered, or linear inequality hypotheses may be subjected to statistical tests.

Some preconditioners for systems of linear inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We show that a combination of two simple preprocessing steps would generally improve the conditioning of a homogeneous system of linear inequalities. Our approach is based on a comparison among three different but related notions of conditioning for linear inequalities.

Kantorovich Type Integral Inequalities for Tensor Product of Continuous Fields of Hilbert Space Operators [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
This paper presents a number of Kantorovich type integral inequalities involving tensor products of continuous fields of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. Kantorovich type inequality in which the product is replaced by an operator mean is also considered. Such inequalities include discrete inequalities as special cases.

Is there an openness Kuznets curve? Evidence from Latin America [PDF]

open access: yes
Numerous studies have examined the relationship between income inequality and trade openness. This paper departs from previous work by considering a possible non-linear relationship between trade openness and inequality.

Matrix versions of some classical inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
Some natural inequalities related to rearrangement in matrix products can also be regarded as extensions of classical inequalities for sequences or integrals. In particular, we show matrix versions of Chebyshev and Kantorovich type inequalities. The matrix approach may also provide simplified proofs and new results for classical inequalities.

Gaussian processes with linear operator inequality constraints

open access: yes, 2019
This paper presents an approach for constrained Gaussian Process (GP) regression where we assume that a set of linear transformations of the process are bounded.

A Linear Generalization of Gronwall's Inequality [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1965
where k(t, s) and w0(t) are known non-negative functions and u(t) is an unknown non-negative function. For examples, one can refer to Bellman [l, pp. 35 ff.], Coddington and Levinson [2, pp. 37 ff.], Willett [3], and others. In order to obtain from (1.1) a genuine upper bound for u(t), i.e., an upper bound independent of u, it seems necessary to ...

On an apparently bilinear inequality for the Fourier transform [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
A bilinear inequality of Geba, Greenleaf, Iosevich, Palsson, and Sawyer for the Fourier transform is shown to be equivalent to a simpler linear inequality, and the range of exponents is extended. Related mixed-norm inequalities are discussed.
