On the Linearity of Autonomous Sequential Machines

IEEE Transactions on Electronic Computers, 1964
This paper presents a method of determining, from the flow table of an autonomous sequential machine, whether the machine can be realized by a linear circuit which uses the minimum possible number of secondary variables. The method is based on a class of binary partitions of states, which are used to find a minimal assignment of the secondary variables

Decomposition of linear sequential machines

Mathematical Systems Theory, 1969
Linear sequential machines can sometimes be decomposed into parallel and series connections of smaller linear sequential machines. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for such decompositions to exist for finite linear sequential machines.

Theory of Extended Linear Machines

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 2002
This paper extends the theory of autonomous linear machines (LMs). The theory of the extension field has provided the foundation for the design of such machines referred to as Extended Linear Machines (ELM). An analytical framework has been reported to completely characterize the vector subspace generated by an ELM and also different variations of LMs ...

The Tree Set of a Linear Machine

IEEE Transactions on Electronic Computers, 1965
Linear sequential machines are finding an increasing number of uses in error correction, random number generation, and other digital applications. Autonomous behaviors of such machines with nonsingular characteristic matrix have been widely studied.

A Linear Decomposition for Sequential Machines

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1970
This paper considers the loop-free decomposition of nonautonomous, synchronous, deterministic, nonlinear sequential machines into linear and nonlinear component machines. Two methods are derived which generate the desired decomposition and determine the state code assignment consistent with the linear realization of a component machine.

Optimal quantum machines by linear and non‐linear optics

Fortschritte der Physik, 2004
AbstractSince manipulations of qubits are constrained by the quantum mechanical rules, several classical information tasks can not be perfectly extended to the quantum world. The more relevant limitations in quantum information processing are the impossibility to perfectly clone any unknown qubit and to map it in its orthogonal state. Even if these two

Linearity Testing and Realization of Sequential Machines

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1974
The necessary and sufficient conditions for the linear realizability of a sequential machine are stated. The discussion considers the state transition and output functions separately and thus machines with nonlinear output function can also be tested for linearity of the state transition function.

Uniform Modular Realizations and Linear Machines

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1971
It is shown that a single-output Moore-type n-state linear machine may be realized with no more than 2n copies of the AND–OR-delay (AOD) module of Newborn, Weiner, and Hopcroft. This bound is significantly lower than that for arbitrary single-output Moore-type machines, which is 2n.

Comparison of Linear Primary Permanent Magnet Vernier Machine and Linear Vernier Hybrid Machine

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2014
This paper presents the comparison of linear primary permanent magnet vernier (LPPMV) machine and linear vernier hybrid (LVH) machine. The LPPMV machine and the LVH machine both operate based on the magnetic gear principle, hence possessing the advantages of low speed and high thrust force density.
