Wide neural networks of any depth evolve as linear models under gradient descent [PDF]
A longstanding goal in deep learning research has been to precisely characterize training and generalization. However, the often complex loss landscapes of neural networks (NNs) have made a theory of learning dynamics elusive.

Non-destructive method for estimating chrysanthemum leaf area
Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora) is the second most produced and commercialized ornamental plant in the world. Measuring leaf area through non-destructive methods is fundamental for studies on its growth and production.

Fitting Linear Mixed-Effects Models Using lme4 [PDF]
Maximum likelihood or restricted maximum likelihood (REML) estimates of the parameters in linear mixed-effects models can be determined using the lmer function in the lme4 package for R. As for most model-fitting functions in R, the model is described in

A decomposition of a linear model
In this paper we consider a general linear model in a continuous time. We propose a decomposition of the process which helps us to understand the structure of the model. Moreover, the sufficiency of the BLUE estimator of the expectation of the process can be characterized in terms of the Gaussian character of a component of the decomposition.

Best linear unbiased estimation for varying probability with and without replacement sampling
When sample survey data with complex design (stratification, clustering, unequal selection or inclusion probabilities, and weighting) are used for linear models, estimation of model parameters and their covariance matrices becomes complicated.

Revisiting the Dissimilarity Representation in the Context of Regression
In machine learning, a natural way to represent an instance is by using a feature vector. However, several studies have shown that this representation may not accurately characterize an object.
