Compact flexible linear stepping motors

open access: yesScientific Reports
Flexible actuators capable of bending, twisting, and stretching have garnered significant interest for applications in wearable and mobile devices. In this study, we present the development of flexible linear stepping motors (FLSMs) with moving sliders fabricated from flexible printed circuit boards as thin as 0.1 mm.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Motor proteins traffic regulation by supply-demand balance of resources

open access: yes, 2014
In cells and in vitro assays the number of motor proteins involved in biological transport processes is far from being unlimited. The cytoskeletal binding sites are in contact with the same finite reservoir of motors (either the cytosol or the flow ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Design and Control of Active Brake Pedal Simulator with Brake Feel Index-Based Optimization

open access: yesWorld Electric Vehicle Journal
Brake-by-wire systems eliminate the mechanical linkage between the brake pedal and wheel actuators, resulting in the loss of the natural and familiar braking feel perceived by the driver.

Comparative Study of the Dual Layer Magnet Array in a Moving-Coil Tubular Linear PM Motor

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Conventional single-layer magnet arrays are widely utilized in electromagnetic linear machines. The objective of this paper is to analyze various types of novel dual-layer magnet arrays, either in similar or different patterns, to compare their flux ...
