Theory of Narrow U-Shaped Notches in Linear Fracture Mechanics
Herald of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Series Natural Sciences, 2021On the basis of linear fracture mechanics, a complete set of asymptotic formulas is obtained to describe the stress-strain state at the top of a narrow U-shaped notch. This type of defect can be possessed by a crack that has undergone a corrosive effect of the environment, or there can be a crack-like defect in a welded joint, e.g. lack of penetration,

Application of linear fracture mechanics to notched timber elements
Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2006AbstractThe application of linear elastic fracture mechanics is ideally suited to estimating the strength of notched timber elements because wood is quite brittle with respect to tension across the grain. Elements with notches more than a few millimetres deep behave in a brittle manner.

International Journal of Fatigue, 1996
An initiation-propagation model based on the local strain and linear elastic fracture mechanics concepts has been investigated for application to predict the fatigue life of notched components exposed to a corrosive environment. Estimates of the corrosion-fatigue crack initiation lives were obtained using strain-life relationships.

Fracture mechanics and notch sensitivity
A diagram valid for the analysis of the fatigue limit of cracks and notches centred in an infinite plate was recently proposed by the authors of the present work with the aim to make explicit the bridging at the fatigue limit between defect sensitivity ...

Fracture toughness of medium strength steels (A533B, 2.25Cr-1Mo, electroslag welds, cast steels …) with different heat treatments was investigated by using big compact specimens. The comparison of Charpy V and KIc transition curves shows that a very good correlation exists between the transition temperatures defined by these two tests ...
