Intrabeam scattering formulas for high energy beams

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2005
We derive completely integrated formulas for emittance growth times due to intrabeam scattering for charged particle beams in the high energy limit, including the effect of lattice parameters that vary around the accelerator ring.

Resonance crossing and dynamic aperture in nonscaling fixed field alternating gradient accelerators

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2008
Operation with natural chromaticity in a linear nonscaling fixed field alternating gradient (FFAG) accelerator causes crossing of the low order resonances such as integer and half-integer.

A threshold for laser-driven linear particle acceleration in unbounded vacuum [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2011
We hypothesize that a charged particle in unbounded vacuum can be substantially accelerated by a force linear in the electric field of a propagating electromagnetic wave only if the accelerating field is capable of bringing the particle to a relativistic energy in its initial rest frame during the interaction.

Stability study of intense hadron bunches in linear accelerators using a Paul ion trap

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2022
The collective behavior of an ion cloud confined in a linear Paul trap is physically almost equivalent to that of a relativistic beam traveling in a particle accelerator.

Random error propagation on electron beam dynamics for a 50 MeV S-band linac

open access: yesJournal of Physics Communications, 2023
The stability and the quality of particle beams are of utmost importance for many emerging linac installations. The impact on beam properties damage of beam electromagnetic element misalignments and jitter/fluctuations in various accelerator sub-systems ...

Non-linear model of particle acceleration at colliding shock flows [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2013
Powerful stellar winds and supernova explosions with intense energy release in the form of strong shock waves can convert a sizeable part of the kinetic energy release into energetic particles. The starforming regions are argued as a favorable site of energetic particle acceleration and could be efficient sources of nonthermal emission. We present here

Power System design compromises for large-scale linear particle accelerators [PDF]

open access: yes2013 15th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE), 2013
This paper discusses various design aspects of a 280MW Power System for the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), a 50km long electrons-positrons accelerator, under feasibility evaluation. The key requirements are a very high accelerator availability and constant power flow from the utility grid, considering the pulsed power nature of CLIC.

Using a hybrid-fluid model to simulate the ion-hose instability in long-pulse electron linacs

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2005
A numerical model of the ion-hose instability for long-pulse electron linacs is presented, where the ion motion is represented by fluid parameters. In order to gain extra numerical stability, the fluid behavior of the ions is evolved via particle-in-cell
