S-estimation and a robust conditional Akaike information criterion for linear mixed models. [PDF]

open access: yes
We study estimation and model selection on both the fixed and the random effects in the setting of linear mixed models using outlier robust S-estimators.

TMC4 localizes to multiple taste cell types in the mouse taste papillae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Transmembrane channel‐like 4 (TMC4), a voltage‐dependent chloride channel, plays a critical role in amiloride‐insensitive salty taste transduction. TMC4 is broadly expressed in all mature taste cell types, suggesting a possible involvement of multiple cell types in this pathway.

Genome-Wide Association Study for Nodule Traits in Guar

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
Guar [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub] is a diploid legume crop cultivated for galactomannan (guar gum) extracted from the endosperm of the seed. Previous studies have suggested that nodulation of guar can be poor in field conditions; however, solid ...

Engineering tandem VHHs to target different epitopes to enhance antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tandem VHH targeting distinct EGFR epitopes were engineered into a monovalent bispecific antibody (7D12‐EGA1‐Fc) with more potent ADCC without increasing affinity to EGFR. Structural modeling of 7D12‐EGA1‐Fc showed cross‐linking of separate EGFR domains to enhance CD16a engagement on NK cells.

Comparing Year-Class Strength Indices from Longitudinal Analysis of Catch-at-Age Data with Those from Catch-Curve Regression: Application to Lake Huron Lake Trout

open access: yesFishes
Fish year-class strength (YCS) has been estimated via longitudinal analysis of catch-at-age data and via catch-curve regression, but no study has compared the two approaches.

Pedestrian crossing model in urban street (Case study on commercial area in Bandung)

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Pedestrians who cross without any crossing facilities and under mixed-traffic tend to have varying responses. The responses can be analyzed by using multiple linear regression model, with pedestrian crossing delay and pedestrian crossing speed set as ...

Characterization and adsorptive behaviour of snail shell-rice husk (SS-RH) calcined particles (CPs) towards cationic dye

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
In this study, a low-cost composite adsorbent was prepared from snail shell and rice husk (SS-RH) through calcination for brilliant green dye (BGD) adsorption from aqueous solution. Six two-parameter and three three-parameter isotherm models were used to

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐
