On a class of linearizable Monge-Amp\`ere equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Monge-Amp\`ere equations of the form, $u_{xx}u_{yy}-u_{xy}^2=F(u,u_x,u_y)$ arise in many areas of fluid and solid mechanics. Here it is shown that in the special case $F=u_y^4f(u, u_x/u_y)$, where $f$ denotes an arbitrary function, the Monge-Amp\`ere ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Numerical convergence of nonlinear nonlocal continuum models to local elastodynamics

open access: yes, 2018
We quantify the numerical error and modeling error associated with replacing a nonlinear nonlocal bond-based peridynamic model with a local elasticity model or a linearized peridynamics model away from the fracture set. The nonlocal model treated here is

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Determination of physicomechanical properties of sedimentary cover rocks on the basis of seismic, borehole data and the theory of elastic waves of stressed media

open access: yesГеофизический журнал, 2011
An approach to determine the true values of fundamental parameters of rocks elasticity of geo-logical section on the base of real seismic and geophysical well logging data taking into account the medium geodynamic state has been proposed on the base of ...

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Rotterdam vs Almost Ideal Models: Will the Best Demand Specification Please Stand Up? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Among the many demand specifications in the literature, the Rotterdam model and the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) have particularly long histories, have been highly developed, and are often applied in consumer demand systems modeling.
