The tongue of the red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans): morphological characterization through gross, light, scanning electron, and immunofluorescence microscopic examination

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
The red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is renowned for its remarkable adaptations, yet much of its complex biology remains unknown. In this pioneering study, we utilized a combination of gross anatomy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), light ...

Three-dimensional structure of the lingual papillae of healthy rats and rats with experimental diabetes mellitus (in the context of mechanism of development of diabetic glossitis)

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems, 2017
We studied the three-dimensional structure and patterns of distribution of the lingual papillae of healthy rats (the norm) and their changes in the process of development of diabetes mellitus І type.

Bcl11b/Ctip2 is required for development of lingual papillae in mice

open access: yesDevelopmental Biology, 2016
Molecular mechanisms underlying the development and morphogenesis of oral epithelia, comprising the gustatory and nongustatory epithelium, remain unclear. Here, we show that Bcl11b, a zinc finger transcription factor, plays an important role in the development of lingual papillae, especially filiform papillae.

Soft Tissue Substitutes: Current Biomaterials and Indications at Teeth and Implant Sites

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This manuscript provides an updated overview of the current evidence on soft tissue graft substitutes for teeth and dental implants. When appropriately indicated, these biomaterials offer a reliable, less invasive alternative to autogenous grafts, effectively improving root coverage, keratinized mucosa width, and soft tissue thickness with reduced ...

Morphology of the lingual papillae in the Asian golden cat

open access: yesOkajimas Folia Anatomica Japonica, 2018
We microscopically examined the dorsal lingual surface of an adult Asian golden cat (Catopuma temminckii). The papillae on the margin of the lingual apex were horny-shaped and fungiform. The filiform papillae on the anterior part of the lingual body were large and cylindrical; the connective tissue core of each of these comprised a large conical ...

Morphology of the lingual papillae in the brush-tailed rat kangaroo

open access: yesOkajimas Folia Anatomica Japonica, 2014
We examined the dorsal lingual surface of an adult brush-tailed rat kangaroo (Bettongia penicillata) by scanning electron microscopy. The filiform and fungiform papillae on the lingual apex and body consisted of a main papilla and secondary papillae. The connective tissue core of the filiform papillae on the lingual apex was cylindrical in shape with a

Timing of Re‐Evaluation After Periodontal Therapy: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Re‐evaluation at 3 or 6 months resulted in similar clinical and patient‐reported outcomes. NSPT frequently failed to achieve EoT at pockets with deep intrabony defects (≥ 3 mm), while EoT were frequently achieved at sites with mainly horizontal bony defects.

Bone Grafts: Everything You Need to Know

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This review classifies bone grafts (autograft, allograft, xenograft, synthetic) by source and osteogenic/inductive/conductive potential, linking material properties and mechanisms to clinical indications in periodontal and dental regeneration. Key challenges—limited osteoinduction, poor vascularisation, unbalanced resorption, handling difficulties, and
