Links to Literature: Exploring Real-World Geometry

Teaching Children Mathematics, 2003
Geometry should be a natural and integral part of the mathematics curriculum for elementary students (NCTM 2000). The study of geometry should include a range of activities, from identifying shapes to higher-order processes such as investigating properties of shapes, exploring geometric relationships, and posing and solving geometric problems.

The Geometry of Tracing, a Possible Link Between Geometric Drawing and Euclid’s Geometry?

2023
The reproduction of figures is a common task in elementary school, very present in the curricula and in many textbooks. Under what conditions, especially regarding the use of instruments, does this task allow the conceptualization of geometric objects, in what we call the geometry of tracing?

Possible Link Between Isospace and the Geometry of Space-Time

Physical Review Letters, 1964
A relation between internal degrees of freedom and event space in quantum field theory is suggested. The event space is considered as a Riemann space in accord with general relativity. The dimension, metric, linear connection, and curvature tensor of the internal space are uniquely determined by the Riemann geometry. (L.B.S.)

On the geometry of homotopy invariants of links

Mathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1992
One of the central problems in higher-dimensional knot theory is the classification of links up to concordance. In 14, Le Dimet constructed a universal model for (disk) link complements, which allowed him to formulate this problem in the framework of surgery theory by applying the Cappell-Shaneson program for studying codimension two embeddings of ...
