Aggregation of Power Losses in Radio Link Budgeting

open access: yesIOSR Journal of Electronics and Communication Engineering, 2014
In the design of wireless communication links between two sites, issues of range, that is, how far the transmitted signal would go given certain transmission parameters, and the throughput of such link, are of great concern to the radio engineer such that several loss factors militating against the strength of the transmitted signal as it travels ...

200 Gbps/λ PON Downstream C-Band Direct-Detection Links with ≥29 dB Power Budget

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In this paper we present the simulative analysis of a 200 Gbps per wavelength (λ) 8-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-8) downstream communication over up to 20 km single mode fiber (SMF) in C-band based on direct detection (DD) achieving at least a 29 dB link power budget in a PON environment.

Real-Time 100 Gb/s PAM-4 for Access Links With up to 34 dB Power Budget

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2023
The growing demand for broadband access networks keeps motivating research for higher capacity in both wired and wireless access networks. Recently, the recommendation for 50G-PON with conventional NRZ modulation has been published. Bidirectional point-to-point access networks, also known as BiDi, used in mobile xHaul, are standardized up to 50 Gb/s ...

Applications of Nanosatellites in Constellation: Overview and Feasibility Study for a Space Mission Based on Internet of Space Things Applications Used for AIS and Fire Detection

open access: yesSensors, 2023
In some geographically challenging areas (such as deserts, seas, and forests) where direct connectivity to a terrestrial network is difficult, space communication is the only option. In these remote locations, Internet of Space Things (IoST) applications

Passive RFID Uplink and Downlink Link Budget and Comparison of ASK and BPSK Backscatter Modulations

open access: yesSakarya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Dergisi, 2019
Complete link budget for forward and backwardlink in a RFID system are given with constituent parts. Backward link signallevels with current improvements requires separate TX and RX antenna bistaticconfiguration to overcome reader threshold.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Single-Lane 54-Gbit/s PAM-4/8 Signal Transmissions Using 10G-Class Directly Modulated Lasers Enabled by Low-Complexity Nonlinear Digital Equalization

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
This work presents the use of a directly modulated laser (DML) in time- and wavelength division multiplexed passive optical networks (TWDM-PONs), in which an EDFA-based booster amplification and an SOA-based pre-amplification are utilized to improve the ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.
