By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Impact of Optical Communication Link Error on Large-Scale AI Training in Data Centers

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
Recently, data centers (DCs) have been increasingly dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) training processes. To enable large-scale model training, parallelization schemes such as distributed data parallelism (DDP) and pipeline parallelism (PP) are ...

Improving the Performance of Multi-Hop Wireless Networks by Selective Transmission Power Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In a multi-hop wireless network, connectivity is determined by the link that is established by the receiving signal strength computed by subtracting the path loss from the transmission power.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

SerDes link co-simulation and passive link optimization design

open access: yesDianzi Jishu Yingyong
As the signal transmission rate of the SerDes link increases, the signal integrity (SI) challenge increases further as the channel link passes through PKG and PCB boards, through holes, AC capacitors and connectors.

A Transmission Model of Analog Signals in Photonic Links

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
We investigate the transmission of analog photonic signals based on coupled-mode theory and small-signal analysis and provide general expressions for signal evolution along standard single-mode-fiber links. Such model consists of a set of terms that correspond to polarization effects, chromatic dispersion (CD), and fiber nonlinearity.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
