Causal Relationships Between Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Myocardial Infarction: Insights From Univariable and Multivariable Mendelian Randomization Analyses

open access: yesAnnals of Human Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Observational studies have indicated that gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is connected to myocardial infarction (MI). Nonetheless, the question of causality in these relationships remains unresolved, given the potential influence of confounding variables.

The History of the Panmictic Population Concept and Its Legacy in Contemporary Population Genetics

open access: yesAnnals of Human Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The panmictic population concept is at the heart of population, evolutionary and conservation genetics. However, in nature, true panmictic populations are vanishingly rare. As an idea conceived for modelling evolutionary dynamics, it has been thought that the assumption of panmixia was formalised during the development of the Modern Synthesis.

Gene–Environment Interaction Affects Risk of Atopic Eczema: Population and In Vitro Studies

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Atopic eczema is a complex trait resulting from multiple genetic and environmental factors. This study investigated evidence for interaction between 24 established eczema genetic risk variants and 18 environmental factors. One variant‐environmental pair showed nominally significant interaction in discovery, replication and meta‐analyses: early‐life dog

Battle in the Clouds

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This narrative experiment brings together scenes from my family histories in western Pennsylvania coal country, alongside ongoing visits to learn about rising health issues in the region today. Increasing numbers of residents express concerns about chronic problems such as young cancers, and many people worry about potential exposures coming ...

Pharmacogenetics of follicle‐stimulating hormone action in the male

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Male factor infertility (MFI) is involved in half of the cases of couple infertility. The follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) therapy is considered efficient to improve semen parameters and pregnancy rate in patients with idiopathic MFI, following the lesson learned from hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Long‐term cardiovascular risk in women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: Insights from polygenic risk scores

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
FinnGen data of 213 942 women was utilized in order to investigate the risk of cardiovascular disease in women with and without hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and with diverse genetic risks for cardiovascular disease and preeclampsia measured with polygenic risk scores.
