Spin dynamics of low-dimensional excitons due to acoustic phonons
We investigate the spin dynamics of excitons interacting with acoustic phonons in quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum disks by employing a multiband model based on the $4\times4$ Luttinger Hamiltonian.

Abstract Long‐term tephrostratigraphies of volcanic islands such as the Azores are often limited to young and incomplete subaerial records. Here, we present a Pleistocene‐Holocene marine tephra archive around the eastern islands of the Azores based on 22 marine gravity cores.

Hadronic interactions and cosmic rays at ultra high energies
Observations of ultra high energy cosmic rays allow in principle to obtain information about the properties of hadronic interactions in an energy range not accessible with particle accelerators.

Impact vesiculation – a new trigger for volcanic bubble growth and degassing [PDF]
We highlight a potentially important trigger for bubble growth and degassing in volcanic bombs. We have successfully triggered bubble growth in previously unvesiculated samples of silicate melt during experiments to simulate volcanic bomb impact, by ...

Electric field and exciton structure in CdSe nanocrystals
Quantum Stark effect in semiconductor nanocrystals is theoretically investigated, using the effective mass formalism within a $4\times 4$ Baldereschi-Lipari Hamiltonian model for the hole states.

Abstract Pumice rafts derived from submarine eruptions can remain afloat for months or even years, traveling thousands of kilometers on ocean currents. These natural phenomena disperse marine organisms and provide important evidence for submarine volcanism yet are not fully understood.

SOMATOTOPY OF THE TRIGEMINAL COMPLEX: NERVE, GANGLION, NUCLEUS.
This paper summarizes, in a modern fashion and with a number of molecular, functional and magnetic resonance imaging details, the main morphological data about the trigeminal complex (i.e., trigeminal nerve, ganglion and nucleus).

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract A key feature of Orchidaceae is the production of dust‐like seeds that depend on fungal carbon during early development. Although protocorms and mature green orchids typically associate with rhizoctonia fungi, many non‐photosynthetic orchids and some photosynthetic ...
