ABSTRACT Aquatic ecosystems have been in an alarming state of decline for decades. In particular, estuarine ecosystems have experienced long‐term declines in fish diversity due to factors such as habitat degradation, pollution and altered hydrology. Monitoring these systems is often limited by the difficulty and cost of conventional survey methods.

Abstract The Calabrian Arc subduction system (Central Mediterranean) is characterized by a deep and narrow (200 km) slab. Addressing the poorly understood link between shallow and deep mantle structures, we present the first high‐resolution mapping of crustal and upper mantle discontinuities across the Calabrian Arc and Southern Tyrrhenian basin.

The study compared trawl and eDNA metabarcoding of demersal fish communities in an open ocean environment around the Faroe Islands. eDNA provided a comparable assessment of demersal species biomass and revealed additional spatial information on keystone species known to be under‐sampled by demersal trawls due to size and behavioral traits.
