Lipodystrophy: A paradigm for understanding the consequences of "overloading" adipose tissue.
Physiological Reviews, 2020Lipodystrophies have been recognised since at least the 19th century and despite their rarity tended to attract considerable medical attention due to the severity and somewhat paradoxical nature of the associated metabolic disease which so closely mimics

Diagnostic strategies and clinical management of lipodystrophy
Expert Review of Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2020Introduction: Lipodystrophy is a heterogeneous group of rare diseases characterized by various degrees of fat loss which leads to serious morbidity due to metabolic abnormalities associated with insulin resistance and subtype-specific clinical features ...

The lipodystrophies are rare disorders characterized by selective but variable loss of adipose tissue. Metabolic complications, such as insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus, hypertriglyceridemia, and fatty liver, increase in severity with the extent of fat loss. The lipodystrophies can be classified into two major types: familial and acquired.

Centrifugal lipodystrophy of the face mimicking progressive lipodystrophy
British Journal of Dermatology, 1992We report a Japanese boy with centrifugal lipodystrophy. The initial lesion developed on the forehead as an area of erythema which showed centrifugal spread and central fading to leave a residual depression. Three years later, similar erythematous lesions appeared on the cheeks, and he developed a cadaverous appearance.

Acquired lipodystrophy associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Melanoma research, 2020Immune checkpoint inhibitors have become the mainstay of treatment for metastatic melanoma. This article presents a new case of acquired generalised lipodystrophy (AGL) during anti-programmed cell death-1 (anti-PD-1) therapy and a systematic review of ...

Complications of lipodystrophy syndromes
La Presse Médicale, 2021Lipodystrophy syndromes are rare complex multisystem disorders caused by generalized or partial lack of adipose tissue. Adipose tissue dysfunction in lipodystrophy is associated with leptin deficiency. Lipodystrophy leads to severe metabolic problems.

Lipodystrophy: A case report of partial lipodystrophy
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1985Abstract A case report of partial lipodystrophy in which autogenous fat graft was used to improve the facial appearance is presented. The pathogenesis and the treatment methods of this rare condition are reviewed.

Acquired generalized lipodystrophy under immune checkpoint inhibition
British Journal of Dermatology, 2019Immune checkpoint inhibitors are now the standard of care in the treatment of several types of cancer. Cutaneous immune‐related adverse events (irAEs) are usually of low grade and reversible, while endocrine irAEs are generally irreversible and managed ...

Lipodystrophy: A case report of partial lipodystrophy of the face
British Journal of Oral Surgery, 1977Lipodystrophy is a disorder of the subcutaneous adipose tissue. It can occur in two forms--partial and total. Gorlin and Goldman (1970) suggested that facial lipodystrophy can only occur bilaterally, and should it occur unilaterally, then it is hemifacial atrophy. A case is reported to illustrate that partial lipodystrophy can occur unilaterally.
