Lipoma in the Thyroid?

We report a child with a nodular goiter and a lipoma in the thyroid gland. This association has not been previously described in children. Thyrolipoma and lipomatosis of the thyroid are rare tumors of similar histology and unclear etiology. The lesions and the histology described in this child might represent the beginning of this disease.

Two cases of intrinsic laryngeal lipoma are added to the twenty-four cases recorded previously. Lipoma may occur anywhere beneath the skin over the entire body. In the larynx these tumours lie rather deep and it is therefore important to obtain a deep tissue biopsy.

In a previous clinico‐pathologic and prognostic study of a Swedish national series of liposarcoma the designation atypical lipoma was suggested for a group of well‐differentiated non‐metastasizing liposarcomas characterized by only moderate nuclear atypia. In the present report. 21 new cases of atypical lipoma are described.
