Journal of Immunological Methods, 1997
Various aspects of the application of liposomes as a label in immunoassays are reviewed. Methods for the preparation of liposomes, from the basic film method to the more advanced dehydration-rehydration method, are discussed. Furthermore, the markers used in liposome labels, as well as the methods to conjugate liposomes to antigens or antibodies, are ...

The attempt was made to study liposome stability and oxidation under the autoclaving conditions. It was shown that after the preliminary air removal from a liposome sample there was no lipid oxidation (malonaldehyde bis(dimethyl acetate) was used as a control) and liposome content leakage during autoclaving.

Adsorption of serum proteins to the liposomal surface plays a critical role in the clearance of liposomes from the blood circulation. In this review, we will discuss the role of the liposomal opsonins proposed so far in liposome clearance. Additional, related topics that will be addressed are the cell-surface receptors that might be involved in ...

Expert Opinion on Drug Delivery, 2012
Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products with biologically active ingredients purporting to have medical or drug-like benefits. Some cosmeceuticals can act effectively when reaching their target sites in the deeper layers of the skin. However, the barrier nature of skin causes significant difficulties for compounds to be delivered through.

Doxorubicin is a potent antineoplastic agent with activity against numerous human cancers. Encapsulation of doxorubicin inside a liposome alters bioavailability, biodistribution and thus its biological activity significantly. The physical properties of the liposome (size, lipid components and lipid dose) play a major role in determining drug retention ...

Liposomes have been widely applied as carriers of molecules in the fields of nanodevices, drug delivery and gene delivery, as well as a mimic for cell membranes. In the biosensor field, liposomes find special application in signal amplification, due to their excellent carrier properties for encapsulation of signal marker compounds across a wide ...

AbstractMany methods of labeling liposomes with both diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides have been developed since the initial discovery of liposomes 40 years ago. Diagnostic radiolabels can be used to track nanometerāsized liposomes in the body in a quantitative fashion.

Liposomes have come a long way since their conception in the 1960s, when they were envisioned primarily for drug delivery. Besides serving the important function of the delivery of a variety of drugs, liposomes offer a platform for the co-delivery of a range of therapeutic and diagnostic agents with different physicochemical properties.
