Monitoring sand particle concentration in multiphase flow using acoustic emission technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Multiphase flow is the simultaneous flow of two or several phases through a system such as a pipe. This common phenomenon can be found in the petroleum and chemical engineering industrial fields.

Mitigation of underwater explosion effects by bubble curtains : experiments and modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mine fields and UneXploded Ordnances (UXO) become a danger regarding maritime activities. Since UXOs are strongly affected by marine corrosion after decades, they cannot be handled safely.

Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Coalescence and break-up in dense bubbly flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A combined experimental and computational study has been performed on the effect of coalescence and breakup in bubbly flows. A pseudo-2D bubble column with a special needle sparger has been constructed to obtain well-defined inlet conditions at the gas ...

A Non-Intrusive Impedance Cross-Correlation (ICC) Flow Meter for Dispersed Phase Velocity and Volume Fraction Profile Measurement in Two Phase Flows

open access: yes, 2012
This paper describes the design and implementation of an impedance cross correlation flow meter which can be used in solids-water pipe flows to measure the local solids volume fraction distribution and the local solids velocity distribution.

Super‐Resolution Ultrasound Based Cell Tracking With Polymeric Nanobubbles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a super‐resolution ultrasound platform for tracking cells in vivo. Biocompatible polymeric nanobubbles are used as highly echogenic intracellular labels. Following the injection of cells and microbubbles, ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM) can dynamically match the microvascular architecture and individual cell trajectories ...

Slug Velocity Measurement and Flow Regime Recognition Using Acoustic Emission Technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Slug velocity measurement and flow regime recognition using acoustic emission technology are presented. Two non-intrusive and three intrusive methods were employed to detect the slug regime and measure its velocity using AE sensors. For the non-intrusive
