Liquid crystal programmable metasurface for terahertz beam steering
The coding metasurface integrated with tunable materials offers an attractive alternative to manipulate the THz beam dynamically. In this work, we demonstrate a THz programmable metasurface based on liquid crystal.

Self-Localized Liquid Crystal Micro-Droplet Arrays on Chemically Patterned Surfaces
Liquid crystal (LC) micro-droplet arrays are elegant systems that have a range of applications, such as chemical and biological sensing, due to a sensitivity to changes in surface properties and strong optical activity.

Coincident molecular auxeticity and negative order parameter in a liquid crystal elastomer [PDF]
Auxetic materials have negative Poisson’s ratios and so expand rather than contract in one or several direction(s) perpendicular to applied extensions. The auxetics community has long sought synthetic molecular auxetics – non-porous, inherently auxetic ...

Three-dimensional solitary waves with electrically tunable direction of propagation in nematics
In a previous work, the authors have demonstrated the formation of localized waves in nematic liquid crystals driven by an electric field. Here they demonstrate the realization of solitary waves of (3+2)D type which can be steered along longitudinal and ...

3D Printing of Liquid Crystal Elastomeric Actuators with Spatially Programed Nematic Order
Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) are soft materials capable of large, reversible shape changes, which may find potential application as artificial muscles, soft robots, and dynamic functional architectures.

Artificial web of disclination lines in nematic liquid crystals
Disclination lines are topological defects in molecular orientation widely found in liquid crystals. Here Wang et al. use a surface patterning technique to produce a very stable freestanding 3D array of ½ twist disclinations, which could be exploited in ...

The role of local bond-order at crystallization in a simple supercooled liquid [PDF]
Large scale Molecular Dynamics simulations of sixty-five systems with N=80000 Lennard-Jones particles at two different supercooled liquid state points reveals, that the supercooled states contain spatially heterogeneous distributed subdomains of particles with significant higher bond-order than the mean bond-order in the supercooled liquid.

Recently, ‘Liquid crystal display (LCD) vs. organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display: who wins?’ has become a topic of heated debate. In this review, we perform a systematic and comparative study of these two flat panel display technologies. First, we
