Photodeformable Azobenzene‐Containing Liquid Crystal Polymers and Soft Actuators

Advanced Materials, 2019
Photodeformable liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) that adapt their shapes in response to light have aroused a dramatic growth of interest in the past decades, since light as a stimulus enables the remote control and diverse deformations of materials.

Liquid Crystal Materials for Biomedical Applications

Advances in Materials, 2023
Liquid crystal is a state of matter being intermediate between solid and liquid. Liquid crystal materials exhibit both orientational order and fluidity.

Electrospun liquid crystal elastomer microfiber actuator

Science Robotics, 2021
An electrospun liquid crystal elastomer microfiber actuator can generate large actuation with high power density. Fibers capable of generating axial contraction are commonly seen in nature and engineering applications.

Liquids, Crystals and Liquid Crystals

Physics Today, 1989
In thinking about the states of condensed matter, we usually consider two extremes. At one extreme are crystalline solids, in which atoms form a perfectly periodic array that extends to infinity in three directions. At the other extreme are fluids or glasses, in which the atoms or molecules are completely disordered and the system is both ...

High-efficiency improvement of thermal conductivities for epoxy composites from synthesized liquid crystal epoxy followed by doping BN fillers

, 2020
Liquid crystal epoxy resin presents high intrinsic thermal conductivity coefficient (λ). However, the complex molecular structure design and tedious synthesis process severely limit its rapid development and further industrial application.

Photoalignment of Liquid Crystals by Liquid Crystals

Physical Review Letters, 2000
We observed light-induced alignment of the nematic liquid crystal, 4, 4(')-n-pentylcyanobiphenyl (5CB), on a fused quartz. Irradiation of the adsorbed layer with polarized ultraviolet light produced homogeneous alignment in a 5CB-filled liquid crystal cell with the easy orientation axis perpendicular to the polarization direction.
