New liquid crystal materials enabling revolutionary display devices [PDF]
The Display and Beam Steering Thrust of the AFOSR Liquid Crystal MURI addressed key materials and device technology issues affecting performance of liquid crystal (LC) electro-optic (EO) devices, particularly device structures useful in information ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

The kinetic mismatch between electron transfer and proton diffusion fundamentally limits the efficiency of photocatalytic H2O2 production. To address this, an anisotropic dual S‐scheme heterojunction (C3N4/SubPc‐1/C3N5) is constructed to achieve ...

A Fast-Response Vertical-Alignment In-Plane-Switching-Mode Liquid Crystal Display
Fast-response liquid crystal (LC) displays have attracted attention for use as gaming displays with high frame rate and field-sequential displays. This work presents an LC display mode with vertical alignment and horizontal electric field driving, which ...

In-plane Switching Deformed Helix Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Display Cells
In-plane electro-optical switching (IPS) is a natural feature of a conventional planar-aligned display cell based on the deformed helix ferroelectric liquid crystal effect (DHFLC-effect) with a sub-wavelength helix pitch, if the tilt angle is close to 40

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A liquid crystal based contact lens display using PEDOT: PSS and obliquely evaporated SiO2 [PDF]
An active spherically conformed liquid crystal cell is presented comprising PEDOT:PSS as a transparent conductive layer and obliquely evaporated SiO2 as an alignment layer. To tackle compatibility issues with the SU8 processing needed for the spacers, an

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
