Physical Anchoring‐Assisted Mechanically Guided Assembly for Material‐Independent 3D Mesostructures

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Conventional mechanically guided 3D assembly relies on selective chemical bonding between 2D precursors and elastomeric substrates, imposing fundamental limitations on material compatibility and scalability. Here, we present a physically anchored, buckling‐guided assembly platform based on a rod array patterned elastomeric substrate (RPES).

Spatial Activity Patterning and Topological Defect Transport in Acoustically Energized Active Liquid Crystals

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Channel geometry is used to pattern activity in acoustically energized active liquid crystals, producing controlled, directional transport of topological defects. The mechanism is revealed by experiment and minimal modeling, offering a new design principle for programmable topological transport and active microfluidic architectures. ABSTRACT Patterning

Enhanced Actuation Stability of Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuators With Diels–Alder Dynamic Bonds

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
By leveraging furan substitution, enhanced thermal stability during actuation of liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) with Diels–Alder dynamic (DA) bonds was achieved. This work demonstrates that 3‐substituted furan broadens the actuation window of LCEs with DA bonds and enables superior thermomechanical stability and cycling performance at elevated ...
