Soft Skins With Reversible Thickness Morphing: Materials, Mechanisms, and Applications
Evolution of electronic skin (e‐skin) technologies toward adaptive, multifunctional soft skins. Phase I highlights early rigid and discrete sensory interfaces. Phase II shows the transition toward flexible, stretchable, and large‐area e‐skin. Phase III captures the emergence of computational e‐skin.

Liquid crystal elastomer strips as soft crawlers [PDF]
In this paper, we speculate on a possible application of Liquid Crystal Elastomers to the field of soft robotics. In particular, we study a concept for limbless locomotion that is amenable to miniaturisation.

Neutron Reflectometry and Compression of Graded Hydrogel Surfaces
Highly‐entangled and covalently‐crosslinked hydrogels with thin and thick surface gel layers are compressed in neutron reflectometry experiments. Surface gel layer thickness dictates the extent to which the polymer network at the surface of a hydrogel collapses, while crosslinking chemistry, and therefore elastic modulus, impacts the pressure at which ...

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

Multifunctional Ionene Liquid Crystal Elastomers
Incorporating ionic species into the backbone of liquid crystalline elastomers offers a template for tailoring thermomechanical and electromechanical properties. Thermotropic ionene liquid crystalline elastomers (iLCEs) containing imidazolium-based cationic groups are capable of work-dense (∼14 J/kg), large-strain (>30%) actuation at modest ...

Metallic microparticles dispersed in liquid metal interconnects mitigate electromigration‐induced failure by reconfiguring internal current density distributions. These fillers facilitate the growth of a robust, protective gallium oxide shell at elevated temperatures, shifting the failure threshold toward a thermal limit.
