Annular folded electrowetting liquid lens

Optics Letters, 2015
We report an annular folded electrowetting liquid lens. The front surface of the lens is coated with a circular reflection film, while the back surface of the lens is coated with a ring-shaped reflection film. This approach allows the lens to get optical power from the liquid-liquid interface three times so that the optical power is tripled.

The thermodynamics of a liquid lens

Journal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions 2, 1983
The conditions of equilibrium of a small lens of one liquid at the surface of another are obtained in terms of the surface and line tensions. Gravity is neglected. The intersection of the three surfaces of tension, which is also the line of tension, is separated from the surfaces and lines on which surface and linear adsorptions vanish by distances of ...

Deformation of a prestressed liquid lens membrane

Applied Optics, 2017
This paper presents a complete model for analysis of the deformed shape of a prestressed circular axisymmetric membrane of a liquid lens. The governing equations are derived using the exact relation between displacements and the Green-Lagrange strains combined with the Saint Venant-Kirchhoff material law, which postulates a linear relation between the ...

Intraocular lens based on double-liquid variable-focus lens

Applied Optics, 2014
In this work, the crystalline lens in the Gullstrand-Le Grand human eye model is replaced by a double-liquid variable-focus lens, the structure data of which are based on theoretical analysis and experimental results. When the pseudoaphakic eye is built in Zemax, aspherical surfaces are introduced to the double-liquid variable-focus lens to reduce the ...

Smart lens: tunable liquid lens for laser tracking

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
A tracking system utilizing tunable liquid lens is proposed and demonstrated. Adapting the concept of EWOD (electrowetting-on-dielectric), the curvature of a droplet on a dielectric film can be controlled by varying the applied voltage. When utilizing the droplet as an optical lens, the focal length of this adaptive liquid lens can be adjusted as ...

Trifocal lens system with liquid crystal Fresnel lens

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2018
Abstract In this paper, we present the construction of a trifocal lens system by combining a liquid-crystal (LC) lens and an ordinary lens. The focusing properties of the proposed system can be controlled by changing the polarization state of the incident light wave. The characteristics of the fabricated lens system were evaluated and

Liquid crystal lens

2014
The study of inhomogeneous surfaces for liquid crystal alignment has witnessed a rapid growth in recent years. Such alignment is capable of generating high pretilt angles for liquid crystal. Several experiments showed that high pretilt angles could be applied to different applications such as multi-stable displays and No Bias Bend fast response time ...
