In this paper the experimental work in the field of evaluation the liquid limit is described. Two different types of soil were analyzed – loam (intermediate plasticity) and sodium bentonite (high plasticity).

Optimal Liquidation of Child Limit Orders
Mathematics of Operations Research, 2017The present paper studies the optimal placement problem of a child order. In practice, short-term momentum indicators inferred from order book data play important roles in order placement decisions. In the present work, we first propose to explicitly model the short-term momentum indicator and then formulate the order placement problem as an optimal ...

Optical limiting based on liquid-liquid immiscibility
SPIE Proceedings, 2003Nonionic surfactants are used to stabilize a dispersed droplet phase in a continuous liquid phase when two immiscible liquids are mixed. As both liquid phases approach the index-matched condition, interfacial scattering is suppressed, and the mixture takes on the characteristics of a Christiansen-Shelyubskii filter.

Determination of liquid limit of a low swelling clay using different cone angles
The fall cone test is one of the most popular methods used to determine the soil liquid limit. In this study, a series of laboratory tests were conducted on kaolin soil, which is considered representative of low-swelling clays, in order to determine the ...

Flow Limitation in Liquid-Filled Lungs: Effects of Liquid Properties
Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 2005Flow limitation in liquid-filled lungs is examined in intact rabbit experiments and a theoretical model. Flow limitation (“choked” flow) occurs when the expiratory flow reaches a maximum value and further increases in driving pressure do not increase the flow.

Thermodynamic Description of Liquid-State Limits
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2012A state of random close packing (RCP) of spheres is found to have a thermodynamic status and a fundamental role in the description of liquid-state equilibria. The RCP limiting amorphous ground state, with reproducible density and well-characterized structure, is obtained by well-defined irreversible and reversible processes.

Limits of metastability of liquid helium
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2003We review the present understanding of liquid helium outside its usual stability range. Most theoretical predictions and experiments concern the negative pressure region, where the phenomenon of cavitation has to be considered in relation with the existence of a liquid-gas spinodal limit.

Temperature control of the FTU Liquid Lithium Limiter
2013 European Control Conference (ECC), 2013Several experiments on Tokamak devices have shown serious difficulties in the development of appropriate technical solutions concerning the structure and material composition of the plasma-facing elements. For instance the first wall (i.e. the innermost surface of the Tokamak vacuum chamber), the limiters and the divertors are a main concern due to the
