Corrosion of Ceramics by Liquid Metals

1994
In this paper, the thermodynamics and kinetics of corrosion processes are analyzed. The phenomena governing the attack on ceramics by liquid metals are described, together with the degradation mechanisms on the surface of a ceramic subject to corrosion by a liquid metal.

Liquid Metal Corrosion and Embrittlement

2007
Abstract Liquid metals are frequently used as a heat-transfer medium because of their high thermal conductivities and low vapor pressures. Containment materials used in such heat-transfer systems are subject to molten metal corrosion as well as other problems. This chapter reviews the corrosion behavior of alloys in molten aluminum, zinc,

Galvanic corrosion couple-induced Marangoni flow of liquid metal

Soft Matter, 2017
The Marangoni flow of room temperature liquid metal has recently attracted significant attention in developing advanced flexible drivers. However, most of its induction methods are limited to an external electric field. This study disclosed a new Marangoni flow phenomenon of liquid gallium induced by the gallium-copper galvanic corrosion couple.

Corrosion of Metals by Liquid Bismuth-Tellurium Solutions

Corrosion, 1973
Corrosion of candidate materials of construction for stills to extract radioactive polonium-210 from bismuth by distillation at temperatures of 450 to 950 C (842 to 1742 F) was evaluated. Tellurium, being chemically similar to polonium, was used as a nonradioactive stand-in for polonium.

Corrosion of Metals by Flowing Liquid Fluorine Compounds

1967
The development of propulsion systems using liquid fluorine and fluorine-containing high energy oxidizers has been slow because of the extreme reactivity and toxicity of these oxidizers. Studies have been conducted in the past on the materials’ compatibility, handling, storage and disposal techniques, and hazard evaluations when using these liquid ...

Corrosion of Metals in Coal Liquefaction Process Liquids*

CORROSION 1983, 1983
Abstract This paper describes a research program which is being conducted to determine the factors governing corrosivity of coal liquefaction process liquids to iron-base and nickel-base alloys. The principal objectives of the program are: to identify and measure concentrations of corrosive species present in coal liquefaction process ...

Disintegration of Thin Liquid Metal Films Engendered by Aluminum Corrosion

Small
Abstract Liquid metals (LMs) illustrate a fantastic future. Thus, great endeavors are made to earn a comprehensive understanding of this fluid and carve it into a niche. Herein, by revisiting the combination of Ga‐based LMs and aluminum (Al), a new phenomenon, namely the disintegration of LM films on encountering water, is identified.

Corrosion of Steels and Refractory Metals in Liquid Lead

1982
Liquid metals are used in many technologies in the industry and are further interesting for their application in nuclear and non-nuclear fields (1, 2). According in recent proposals lead alloys can advantageously be used as breeding material in fusions reactor technology. They are also interesting as target materials for spallation neutron sources.
