Pathway to understand liquid metal embrittlement (LME) in Fe-Zn couple: From fundamentals toward application

Progress in Materials Science, 2021
Abstract Liquid metal embrittlement (LME) has been reported in many structural materials including steel, aluminum, brass, and nickel during hot-working processes e.g. welding, hot-deformation, brazing, heat-treatment, or in-service time. In many of the applications, such as automotive, aerospace, nuclear industries, LME is considered as a serious ...

Investigation of the susceptibility of EUROFER97 in lead–lithium to liquid metal embrittlement (LME)

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2007
Abstract Liquid metal embrittlement (LME) is defined as the brittle fracture (loss of ductility) of usually ductile materials in the presence of a liquid metal. The sensitivity to LME is likely to increase with irradiation hardening as localised stresses can promote the aggressive action of a liquid metal.

Liquid metal embrittlement (LME) susceptibility of the 8–9% Cr martensitic steels F82H-mod., OPTIFER IVb and their simulated welded structures in liquid Pb–17Li

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2000
Abstract This paper describes the results of uniaxial tensile tests on two low activation steels F82H-mod. and OPTIFER IVb. The tests were performed under vacuum and in liquid Pb–17Li at temperatures of 250°C and 400°C at a constant displacement rate of 0.1 mm min −1 , which corresponded to an initial strain rate of 1.1×10 −4 s −1 . Neither F82H-mod.

Liquid Metal Embrittlement (LME) of the 6061 Al-Alloy by Mercury

CORROSION 2004, 2004
Abstract Failure analyses were performed on three fractured 6061-T6 Aluminum alloy turbo-expander wheels that were exposed to a mercury-bearing natural gas environment. This investigation showed that failure of the 6061 Al-alloy was due to corrosion attack by liquid metal embrittlement (LME).

LIQUID METAL EMBRITTLEMENT (LME) SUSCEPTIBILITY OF THE LOW ACTIVATION MARTENSITIC STEELS LA7TaLN, LA12TaLN, LA12TaLC, LA13Ta AND THEIR SIMULATED WELDED STRUCTURES IN LIQUID Pb-17Li

1993
This paper describes the results of uniaxial tensile tests on 4 tantalum containing low activation steels LA7TaLN, LA12TaLN, LA12TaLC and LA13Ta. The tests were performed under vacuum and in liquid Pb-17Li at temperatures of 250 and 400°C at a constant displacement rate of 0.1mm min −1 which corresponded to an initial strain rate of 1.1 × 10 −4 s −1 .

Liquid Metal Embrittlement (LME) Study of a Zinc Rich Primer Applied Steel Vessel Plate and Galvanized Steel Plate at Elevated Temperature

CONFERENCE 2024
Abstract Zinc-rich primer-coated or galvanized ASME SA-516 Grade 70 carbon steel vessels are commonly used in the chemical industry and refineries. Similar to galvanizing, zinc-rich primer coatings are used to protect steel surfaces from corrosion.
