Derivation of forces acting on the liquid weld metal based on arc pressure measurements produced using alternating shielding gases in the GTAW process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
As part of an ongoing process to fully evaluate the effects of an alternating shielding gas supply on the gas tungsten arc and gas metal arc welding processes, a comparison between arc pressures produced using argon, helium, alternating gases and GTAW-P ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Liquid dispersion in inner cavity of rotating packed bed [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Majority of power producing, and industrial processes generate a significant amount of carbon dioxide (CO2). To reduce their CO2 emissions, CCS (carbon capture and storage) can be used.

Flow rate measurements in turbulent liquid metal channel flow using Time‐of‐Flight Lorentz force velocimetry [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2012
AbstractNon‐contact flow control and flow measurements in hot and aggressive metal melts are big challenges in metallurgical applications. Time‐of‐Flight Lorentz force velocimetry (ToF LFV) is an electromagnetic measurement technique to meet these challenges.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Measurement of Low-Concentration Hydrogen in Inert Gas Within a Small Closed Volume

open access: yesSensors
A technique has been proposed and experimentally tested for measuring the hydrogen concentration in an inert atmosphere within a closed system. This method utilizes a metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect capacity-type (MOSFEC) sensor under harsh ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Two‐dimensional ultrasound Doppler velocimeter for velocity field measurements of liquid metal flows [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2011
AbstractWe present a novel fluid flow measurement system based on the pulsed‐wave ultrasound Doppler velocimetry being able to determine two‐dimensional velocity fields. It applies for the measurement of unsteady liquid metal flows driven by electromagnetic forces concerning the research field of magnetohydrodynamics.
