Nitrogen-fixing methane-utilizing bacteria

open access: yes, 1976
Methane occurs abundantly in nature. In the presence of oxygen this gas may be metabolized by bacteria that are able to use it as carbon and energy source.

A Pump For Liquid Nitrogen

open access: yes, 2000
On the Microscopy ListServer, a thread came up about problems with safety when loading cold traps from ladders. Working from a ladder is not a very safe proposition and being up there with a Dewar full of liquid nitrogen brings the safety officer to ...

Effects of Freezing Methods on Water-Holding Capacity and Structural Properties of Myofibrillar Proteins from Hind Leg Muscle of Rana nigromaculata [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
In this study, the effects of different freezing methods and temperatures (freezer at −20 and −50 ℃, and liquid nitrogen at −50 and −80 ℃) on the water-holding capacity and structural properties of myofibrillar proteins from the hind leg muscle of Rana ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Raman spectroscopy of potassium acetate-intercalated kaolinites at liquid nitrogen temperature

open access: yes, 2001
Raman microscopy has been used to study low and high defect kaolinites and their potassium acetate intercalated complexes at 298 and 77 K. Raman spectroscopy shows significant differences in the spectra of the hydroxyl-stretching region of the two types ...

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

ALDOA Promotes Glycolysis and NLRP3/GSDMD Pyroptosis to Accelerate ALS Progression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Glycolytic dysregulation is implicated in disease progression, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates how Aldolase A (ALDOA) drives ALS progression through glycolysis‐mediated motor neuron pyroptosis.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the
