Inhalation of liquid nitrogen vapor

Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1982
A case of accidental inhalation of liquid nitrogen vapor is reported. The patient, a 29-year-old man, developed acute burns of his lips and oropharynx and presented with signs and symptoms of acute upper airway distress within an hour of the injury. The patient underwent emergency tracheostomy and was placed on intravenous dexamethasone and ampicillin.

Liquid Nitrogen Cryotherapy

Archives of Dermatology, 1967
This study on the use of liquid nitrogen as a cryotherapeutic agent was, in a large measure, prompted by the questions of residents and interns: "With how much pressure, for how long, and what lesions should we treat?" An attempt to develop an exact measurement time and pressure system was found to be beset with many variables. Therefore such a system

Liquid-to-vapor homogeneous nucleation in liquid nitrogen

Physical Review B, 1987
Experimental data on the liquid-to-vapor homogeneous-nucleation temperature, which provides a fundamental limit on the maximum attainable superheat, are presented for liquid nitrogen in the temperature range 77.4 ...

The Appropriate Use of Liquid Nitrogen

Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice, 1983
Cryosurgery, from the Greek word "kyros" meaning icy cold, is 80 years old and has become firmly established in medicine as a modality for the destruction of superficial benign and malignant lesions. Its advantages include simplicity of use, few complications, use where radiotherapy would destroy tissue such as cartilaginous structures, little bleeding,

Storage of seed in liquid nitrogen

Cryobiology, 1982
Abstract Germination percentages of 24 species of seeds stored in liquid nitrogen for 600 days were compared with those stored at 5 °C in sealed containers. There were no obvious changes in germination caused either by the freezing and thawing process, or by the 600-day storage in liquid nitrogen. Ease of procedure, costs, and possible application to

The properties of liquid nitrogen

Molecular Physics, 1976
A Molecular Dynamics simulation of liquid nitrogen has been carried out using an atom-atom potential together with a point quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. The changes in the properties of the model fluid compared to a previous simulation [1] using the atom-atom potential alone are small but significant.

Liquid Nitrogen Cryotherapy of Lymphangiectasia

Cornea, 2009
To report a case of lymphangiectasia successfully treated with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy.A 1.5-mm Brymill cryoprobe (Brymill Cryogenic Systems, Ellington, CT) was applied in a double freeze-thaw method after an incisional biopsy of a portion of the conjunctiva.

Liquid Nitrogen Therapy

Archives of Dermatology, 1961
Freezing agents have been used in a diversity of skin conditions since White's first report of the use of liquid air in 1899.1Pusey, in 1907,2popularized the use of solid carbon dioxide only after observing the applications of liquid air and liquid O2in dermatology.

The Joys of Liquid Nitrogen

Journal of Chemical Education, 1996
For the last five years, Oakland Community College has sponsored a one-day community outreach program called "A Science Day for Kids". The program is meant to stimulate the curiosity of students aged 6-13 in the sciences and present opportunities for them to explore several different sciences in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
