Synthesis of hafnium carbide (HfC) via one‐step selective laser reaction pyrolysis from liquid polymer precursor

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, EarlyView.
➢ A one‐step selective laser reaction pyrolysis (SLRP) technique was developed to rapidly synthesize hafnium carbide (HfC) from liquid polymer precursors. ➢ XRD and TEM confirmed the nanocrystalline structure of the HfC. ➢ The SLRP‐based process achieved up to 54% ceramic yield, 18% higher than furnace‐based methods.

An MPC Approach to Transient Control of Liquid-Propellant Rocket Engines [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The current context of launchers reusability requires the improvement of control algorithms for their liquid-propellant rocket engines. Their transient phases are generally still performed in open loop. In this paper, it is aimed at enhancing the control performance and robustness during the fully continuous phase of the start-up transient of a generic

Performance of a circular body earth-to-orbit winged transport with various strap-on boosters [PDF]

open access: yes
Various types of twin strap-on boosters were evaluated by applying them to a core vehicle. The core vehicle has a clipped delta wing and a simple circular body, and is equipped with five Space Shuttle main engines.

Groundwater Sapping in Hack Crater (Mars): Geologic Evidence and Geophysical Modeling of Groundwater Stability

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract This study investigates Hack crater in Arabia Terra on Mars, which exhibits remarkable water‐related landforms, suggesting a period of intense water activity despite lacking a connection with large‐scale fluvial networks. Instead, short valleys within its walls display morphologies indicative of mass‐wasting processes driven by groundwater ...

Numerical methods to prevent pressure oscillations in transcritical flows [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The accurate and robust simulation of transcritical real-fluid effects is crucial for many engineering applications, such as fuel injection in internal combustion engines, rocket engines and gas turbines. For example, in diesel engines, the liquid fuel is injected into the ambient gas at a pressure that exceeds its critical value, and the fuel jet will
