Liquid scintillation counters calibration stability over long timescales. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Radioanal Nucl Chem, 2017
Liquid scintillation spectrometry is widely used for the analysis of alpha and beta emitting radionuclides. Robust calibration of liquid scintillation (LS) spectrometers is fundamental to accurate LS measurement but at the same time is time consuming and

The scintillation of liquid argon [PDF]

open access: yesEPL (Europhysics Letters), 2010
A spectroscopic study of liquid argon from the vacuum ultraviolet at 110 nm to 1000 nm is presented. Excitation was performed using continuous and pulsed 12 keV electron beams. The emission is dominated by the analogue of the so called 2nd excimer continuum. Various additional emission features were found.

Measurements of angle-resolved reflectivity of PTFE in liquid xenon with IBEX

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
Liquid xenon particle detectors rely on excellent light collection efficiency for their performance. This depends on the high reflectivity of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) at the xenon scintillation wavelength of 178 nm, but the angular dependence of ...

Method for determining 226Ra in water via liquid scintillation counting and its uncertainty evaluation

open access: yesFushe yanjiu yu fushe gongyi xuebao, 2023
An analytical method was developed for the rapid determination of 226Ra in water through liquid scintillation counting. The separation and purification of 226Ra from water were performed by co-precipitation using barium sulfate as the carrier; the direct

Flexible liquid light-guide-based radiation sensor with LaBr3:Ce scintillator for remote gamma-ray spectroscopy

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2023
In this study, we fabricated a liquid light-guide-based radiation sensor with a LaBr3:Ce scintillator for remote gamma-ray spectroscopy. We acquired the energy spectra of Cs-137 and Co-60 using the proposed sensor, estimated the energy resolutions of the

Modelling electroluminescence in liquid argon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present Monte-Carlo simulations of electron transport through liquid argon motivated by our recent observation of electroluminescence light emanating from a thick gaseous electron multiplier (THGEM) in a liquid argon volume.

Liquid scintillator calorimetry for the LHC

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1995
Abstract We report on the beam tests of full scale liquid scintillator modules designed for a very forward calorimeter for an experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Tests were performed in the electron beams of the SPS at CERN within the 20 and 150 GeV energy range.

Cherenkov and scintillation light separation in organic liquid scintillators

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2017
The CHErenkov / Scintillation Separation experiment (CHESS) has been used to demonstrate the separation of Cherenkov and scintillation light in both linear alkylbenzene (LAB) and LAB with 2g/L of PPO as a fluor (LAB/PPO). This is the first such demonstration for the more challenging LAB/PPO cocktail and improves on previous results for LAB.
