Effects of Debris Flow Disturbance on Vegetation, Soils, and Topography in a Steep Landscape in Central Virginia

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract In August 1969, intense rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Camille triggered >150 debris flows in Fortune's Cove, a first‐order drainage basin in central Virginia. These debris flows reshaped the landscape by stripping colluvium and vegetation from hollows.

True and False Foodplants of \u3ci\u3eCallosamia Promethea\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) in Southern Michigan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A survey in 1980 of the associations of over 400 cocoons of Callosamia promethea Drury in vegetation along and adjacent to southern Michigan roadsides gave evidence for seven species of true larval foodplants (not including two others known in the area ...

Do Lagged Ecosystem Feedbacks to Hydroclimate Extremes Promote Resilience of Forest Watersheds?

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Hydroclimate extremes (e.g., droughts and wet periods) can significantly alter forest ecohydrological processes. Severe growing‐season droughts can reduce leaf area index (LAI), tree conductivity, and growing‐season length through early senescence. These strategies reduce transpiration (green water use), conserve subsurface water storage while

Secondary Succession in Stands of Red Maple - Sweet Gum - Beech Forests in Ripley County, Indiana [PDF]

open access: yes, 1953
The vegetation of the leached Illinoian till plain has been described in detail by Braun, Keller, McCoy, and the progress of secondary succession in these habitats has been considered quantitatively by Potzger and Potzger, and in a more general way by ...

Advances in Modelling Radiative Transfer, Heat Storage and Turbulent Transport to Evaluate CO2, Heat and Water Fluxes Over Broad‐Leaved Forests: The CanVeg2 Model

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
The CanVeg2 biophysical model is presented with a focus on three novel components with regards to the CanVeg model: 3D ray tracing radiative transfer modeling, a stem energy budget, and wind and turbulence profiles from higher order closure modeling.

Two Indel Variations in the Regulated Carotenoid Pigment Gene Hold the Key to the Interspecies Flower Colour Differentiation in Liriodendron Plants

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2260-2275, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Flower colour variation is pivotal for plant evolution, ecological adaptation, and pollinator attraction. In the Liriodendron genus, L. tulipifera features a distinct orange petal stripe which is absent in L. chinense, driven by differential carotenoid accumulation, yet the underlying genetic mechanism remains unclear.

Seasonal Variation and Bioactivity in the Leaf Oil of Growing in Huntsville, Alabama

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2009
The seasonal variation in the chemical composition of the leaf essential oil of Liriodendron tulipifera has been analyzed by GC-MS. Two individual trees were sampled five times during the course of the growing season. Twenty components were identified in
