Resolving Crustal and Subcrustal Dynamic Sources in Continental Arc Magmas: The Cenozoic Andean Arc of Central Chile

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract The Andean margin of Central Chile (∼32°40′–34°30′S) records abundant Cenozoic arc magmatic activity with variable compositional characteristics. This is examined through the analysis of an extensive database of new and published whole‐rock geochemistry and Sr‐Nd isotopic compositions, in addition to zircon Hf and O isotopic compositions.

Disentangling the effect of the spatial scale and species spatial pattern on the abundance–suitability relationship

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2025, Issue 7, July 2025.
Knowledge about species abundance across broad spatial areas is crucial for unraveling ecological processes. Yet, abundance estimation often demands extensive sampling effort associated with logistical challenges. Using suitability values obtained from species distribution models (based on species' presence data) as a proxy for abundance has garnered ...

The timing of frugivore‐mediated seed dispersal effectiveness

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 219-231, January 2019., 2019
Abstract The seed dispersal effectiveness framework allows assessing mutualistic services from frugivorous animals in terms of quantity and quality. Quantity accounts for the number of seeds dispersed and quality for the probability of recruitment of dispersed seeds.

Resource redistribution mediated by hydrological connectivity modulates vegetation response to aridification in drylands

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2025, Issue 5, May 2025.
Water scarcity poses a significant life constraint in global drylands that determines species adaptations and mosaic of exposed bare areas and vegetation patches. Runoff‐water redistribution resulting from this spatial configuration has been suggested as a key process controlling water availability for vegetation and ecosystem functioning. However, the

Role of low‐impact‐factor journals in conservation implementation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Academic review, promotion, and tenure processes place a premium on frequent publication in high‐impact factor (IF) journals. However, conservation often relies on species‐specific information that is unlikely to have the broad appeal needed for high‐IF journals.

Global invasion and biosecurity risk from the online trade in ornamental crayfish

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 5, October 2024.
Abstract Trade in undomesticated ornamental animals has rapidly expanded beyond brick‐and‐mortar retail stores to now include growing numbers of internet marketplaces. The growing volume, diversity, and origins of invasive non‐native species in trade challenge already weak national biosecurity policies.
