Impact of geothermal expansion and lithium extraction in the Salton Sea known geothermal resource area (SS-KGRA) on local water resources

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Saline brines currently being brought to the surface to produce geothermal energy in the Salton Sea region of California contain high concentrations of lithium that could potentially be extracted before the brine is reinjected back into the geothermal ...

Tracking Battery Microstructural Degradation Through Directional Thermal Transport Signatures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In lithium‐ion batteries, heat conduction varies between the through‐plane and in‐plane directions because of the cell's layered structure. Therefore, cell degradation influences thermal conductivity in each direction uniquely due to detailed microstructural and compositional changes.

Tetracyclic π‐Extended Multi‐Resonant TADF Emitters for Green PSF‐OLEDs With 37.7% EQE and BT.2020‐Compatible Top‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultra‐narrow green multi‐resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters have been developed by linear π‐extension strategy using tetracyclic naphtho[2,3‐b]benzofuran unit. The resulting phosphorescence‐sensitized OLEDs achieve a maximum external quantum efficiency of 37.7% in the bottom‐emitting architecture, while the complementary top ...

Reconstructing Residual‐Solvent‐Involved Li+ Coordination in PVDF‐HFP Polymer Electrolytes for Stable Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2,2,2‐trifluoroethanamide‐mediated coordination regulation reconstructs the local Li+ environment in PVDF‐HFP polymer electrolytes by weakening residual DMF‐dominated coordination and promoting TFSI−‐involved anion‐rich solvation. This strategy facilitates Li+ migration and interfacial desolvation, promotes the formation of a thin inorganic‐rich SEI ...

Spatially Regulated Silicon Clusters in Trimodal Composite Anodes for High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A trimodal anode architecture spatially regulates silicon clusters within confined interstitial environments formed by graphite and contorted hexabenzocoronene. This confinement suppresses silicon aggregation and localized stress while enabling efficient Li‐ion transport, achieving high‐capacity, stable lithium‐ion batteries.

Direct observation of active material concentration gradients and crystallinity breakdown in LiFePO4 electrodes during charge/discharge cycling of lithium batteries

open access: yes, 2014
The phase changes that occur during discharge of an electrode comprised of LiFePO4, carbon, and PTFE binder have been studied in lithium half cells by using X-ray diffraction measurements in reflection geometry. Differences in the state of charge between
