Evolution, Routing and Reservoir Characteristics of Submarine Channels in a Structurally Deforming Slope Setting: Deep‐Water Joint Development Zone of Nigeria and São Tomé and Príncipe

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Deep‐water slope channels and associated facies are a major part of clastic sediment dispersal system extending from the shelf‐edge to the abyssal plain. The toe‐thrust area of the deep‐water Niger Delta enables the analysis of these channels and their interaction with evolving fault‐controlled sea‐floor topography to be determined ...

1D Basin Modelling of Upper Jurassic to Upper Cretaceous Source Rocks in the Southern Pletmos Sub‐Basin, Outeniqua Basin, Offshore South Africa

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Pletmos sub‐basin in the Outeniqua Basin, offshore South Africa, is divided by the Superior, Pletmos and Plettenberg faults into northern and southern depocentres. In this study, geological and organic geochemical data together with 1D basin modelling were used to investigate the burial, thermal and maturation histories, and the timing of ...

Feldspar Albitization With Implications for Reservoir Quality Evolution of Eocene Turbidite Sandstones in Offshore Espírito Santo Basin, Eastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The diagenetic albitization of plagioclase and K‐feldspar grains is a transformative process that significantly alters sandstone's detrital composition and formation water chemistry, impacting reservoir quality. In this study, Eocene turbidite sandstones from the offshore Espírito Santo Basin, Brazil, were investigated to elucidate the role of

Microstructural evidence for multiple generations of sulfide precipitation and impact‐induced thermal alteration under acidic conditions on Asteroid Ryugu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Here we report on the microstructure and chemistry of sulfide minerals returned from asteroid (162173) Ryugu. We identify a unique sulfide population in particle A0016 composed of violarite (FeNi2S4), pyrite (FeS2), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), pyrrhotite (Fe1‐xS), and pentlandite ([Fe,Ni]9S8).

Characterization of coesite‐bearing impact melt glass from the Hapcheon crater, Korea: Trimodal phase architecture, shock metamorphism, and implications for 40Ar/39Ar geochronology

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We present the first micrometer‐scale, phase‐resolved compositional characterization of impact melt glass from the Hapcheon crater (~1.4 km apparent diameter), the first confirmed impact structure on the Korean Peninsula, integrating EPMA‐WDS (5 μm spot), confocal Raman spectroscopy (<1 μm spot), XRD, and 40Ar/39Ar step‐heating geochronology ...
