Sound Velocities of FeO‐Bearing Ringwoodite and Majorite: Implication for Martian Mantle Seismic Profiles

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Compressional and shear wave velocities (Vp, Vs) of candidate Martian deep‐mantle minerals, FeO‐rich ringwoodite ((Mg0.66Fe0.34)2SiO4) and majorite (Mg0.75Fe0.10Al0.26Ca0.07Si0.84O3), were measured up to 25 GPa and 700 K using Brillouin light scattering coupled with externally‐heated diamond anvil cells.

Lithospheric structure in the Pacific geoid [PDF]

open access: yes
The high degree and order SEASAT geoid in the central Pacific correlates closely with the structure of the cooling lithosphere. Relative changes in plate age across major fracture zones in relatively young seafloor frame the east-west trending pattern ...

Incorporating Refugia Capacity in Assessing Plant Climate Vulnerability: A Study Case on Alpine Endemics

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study assesses the impact of climate change on seven endemic plant species in the Alps by modelling future habitat suitability under different climate scenarios. By identifying long‐term refugia, holdouts and stepping stones, the study reveals species‐specific patterns of persistence and highlights the limited potential for range shifts.

Spatiotemporal Variation in Marine Mammal Antipredator Behaviors Resulting From a Predation Pinch Point

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Using 17 years of biologging data from 353 adult female northern elephant seals, we explored how seals modified their use of time and space when moving through nearshore areas where predation risk is high. We found that seals tended to depart at night, arrive during the day, and perform benthic dives along the continental shelf.

Geophysical Coupling Before Three Earthquake Doublets Around the Arabian Plate

open access: yesAtmosphere
In this study, we analysed lithospheric, atmospheric, and top-side ionospheric magnetic field data six months before the three earthquake doublets occurred in the last ten years around the Arabian tectonic plate. They occurred in 2014, close to Dehloran (

Lithospheric Delamination Below the North American Midcontinent Ceased Subsidence in Cratonic Basins

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Cratonic lithospheres carry a long history of tectonic modifications that result in heterogeneous structures, as revealed by an increasing number of geophysical observations. The existence of cratonic basins indicates protracted periods of tectonic modification, causing subsidence within global continental interiors.

Global isostatic geoid anomalies for plate and boundary layer models of the lithosphere [PDF]

open access: yes
Commonly used one dimensional geoid models predict that the isostatic geoid anomaly over old ocean basins for the boundary layer thermal model of the lithosphere is a factor of two greater than that for the plate model.

What is the lithosphere?

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1984
What is the lithosphere? What things subduct, what things do not, and why? How is the lower continental crust formed? Where are the large‐ion lithophile elements stored? Is the style of plate tectonics episodic? These and related questions were considered during a workshop held at the University of Texas at Austin in March 1982 under the sponsorship of
