Bathymetry of the Pacific plate and its implications for thermal evolution of lithosphere and mantle dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A long-standing question in geodynamics is the cause of deviations of ocean depth or seafloor topography from the prediction of a cooling half-space model (HSC).

Subglacial Topography of Coats Land Records Post‐Gondwanan Landscape Evolution and Early Ice‐Sheet Behavior in East Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The East Antarctic Ice Sheet (EAIS) formed circa 34 million years ago and now contains an ice volume equivalent to ∼52 m of global sea‐level rise. Although the EAIS is approximately in balance today, there is substantial uncertainty regarding the sensitivity of sectors underlain by low‐lying bed topography to future climate and ocean warming ...

Upper mantle P velocity structure beneath the Midwestern United States derived from triplicated waveforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Upper mantle seismic velocity structures in both vertical and horizontal directions are key to understanding the structure and mechanics of tectonic plates.

Subparallel thrust and normal faulting in Albania and the roles of gravitational potential energy and rheology contrasts in mountain belts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The active tectonics of Albania and surrounding regions, on the eastern margin of the Adriatic Sea, is characterized by subparallel thrust and normal faulting which, we suggest, is likely to be related to gravitational potential energy contrasts between ...

A Lithospheric Drip Triggered Green and Colorado River Integration

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The integration of the Green and Colorado Rivers shifted the continental drainage divide of North America, marking a key event in the hydrological and biogeographical evolution of the continent. Sedimentological and stratigraphic evidence shows that for integration to occur, the Green River likely cut through the Uinta Mountains between 8 and ...

Cenozoic evolution of the eastern Black Sea: a test of depth-dependent stretching models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Subsidence analysis of the eastern Black Sea basin suggests that the stratigraphy of this deep, extensional basin can be explained by a predominantly pure-shear stretching history.

Lithospheric structure and the isostatic state of Eastern Anatolia: Insight from gravity data modelling

open access: yes, 2018
Eastern Anatolia, Turkey, is a part of the Alpine-Himalayan collisional belt where continental crust is relatively thin for a collisional belt. The region contains part of the Zagros suture zone, which formed during collision of the Arabian and Anatolian

Heat and Tectonics of the Canadian Cordillera From the Seismically Constrained Inversion of Gravity Data

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract An updated approach to seismically constrained modeling of gravity data reveals two broad, NW‐trending low‐density zones in the mantle lithosphere beneath the Canadian Cordillera. The low‐density zones coincide with a shallow lithosphere‐asthenosphere boundary (LAB), a shallow Curie‐point depth, and the location of Quaternary volcanoes.

Intraplate Basalts in Eastern Continental China Record the Subduction History of the Pacific Plate

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
To assess whether intraplate magmatism in eastern continental China records the subduction history of the Pacific plate, we plotted elemental compositions of the volcanic rocks in this region since the Early Cretaceous as a function of age.
