Lithostratigraphy of the Mesoproterozoic Twakputs Gneiss
South African Journal of Geology, 2021Abstract The Twakputs Gneiss is a garnetiferous, K-feldspar megacrystic, biotite granite-granodiorite orthogneiss. It represents a major unit in the Kakamas Domain of the Mesoproterozoic Namaqua-Natal Metamorphic Province extending about 250 km between Riemvasmaak in South Africa and Grünau in southern Namibia. The Twakputs Gneiss occurs

AAPG Bulletin, 1956
ABSTRACT Practical considerations indicate a need for the recognition of three fundamentally differing kinds of lithostratigraphic units: (1) group, formation, member, et cetera, which are traditionally designated on the basis of their position in vertical sequence; (2) lithofacies, which are lateral quantitative variants; and (3 ...

Lithostratigraphy of the Triassic in Jordan
Facies, 1981The Triassic sequence of Jordan east of the Rift-valley consists of an over 1000 m thick sequence of sedimentary rocks. These sediments were deposited near the shore, either under terrestrial conditions within the intertidal range just offshore, or under saline conditions in a sabkha lagoonal environment.

Lithostratigraphy of the Mesoproterozoic Kliphoek Granite
South African Journal of Geology, 2016The Kliphoek Granite is a mesocratic, porphyritic post-tectonic granite in the western Namaqualand sector of the Mesoproterozoic Namaqua-Natal Belt. It was mapped as one of 26 different types of granite of the Spektakel Suite by Council for Geoscience geologists.

The lithostratigraphy of the English Chalk Rock
Cretaceous Research, 1982Abstract The Upper Turonian Chalk Rock occurs within a nodular unit within the otherwise generally soft, white chalk that dominates the English Upper Cretaceous. The nodular unit is condensed, and contains a number of hardgrounds that are designated here as the Chalk Rock Formation.

Lithostratigraphy of the Mesoproterozoic Wilgenhoutsdrif Group
South African Journal of Geology, 2017The Mesoproterozoic metamorphic formations of the Wilgenhoutsdrif Group underlie a large area around the Orange River east of Upington. The quartzitic Grootdrink Formation occurs at the base of the sequence and contacts with older units are either unconformable or along thrusts.

Marine Jurassic lithostratigraphy of Thailand
Journal of Southeast Asian Earth Sciences, 1996Abstract Marine Jurassic rocks of Thailand are well-exposed in the Mae Sot and Umphang areas and less extensively near Mae Hong Son, Kanchanaburi, Chumphon and Nakhon Si Thammarat, in the north, west, and south respectively. They are generally underlain unconformably by Triassic and overlain by Quaternary strata.

Lithostratigraphy of Nigeria — An Overview
World Environmental and Water Resources Congress 2009, 2009Nigeria lies very close to the equator (hot country) West coast Africa between latitude 4° N and 14° N degree and longitude 2° E and 15° E degree. The country is located at the Northern end of Eastern branch of west coast of Africa rift system. Nigeria geological set up comprises broadly sedimentary formation and crystalline basement complex, which ...

Lithostratigraphy of the Mesoproterozoic Garies Granite
South African Journal of Geology, 2016The Garies Granite is a mesocratic to leucocratic, porphyritic post-tectonic member of the Spektakel Suite in the Mesoproterozoic Namaqua-Natal Belt of western Namaqualand. It is a composite unit, showing a continuum of rock types from mesocratic porphyritic biotite granite with characteristic slender phenocrysts (Rooiberg-type) to coarse-grained ...
