Lithostratigraphy of the Mesoproterozoic Wilgenhoutsdrif Group

The Mesoproterozoic metamorphic formations of the Wilgenhoutsdrif Group underlie a large area around the Orange River east of Upington. The quartzitic Grootdrink Formation occurs at the base of the sequence and contacts with older units are either unconformable or along thrusts.

Abstract Marine Jurassic rocks of Thailand are well-exposed in the Mae Sot and Umphang areas and less extensively near Mae Hong Son, Kanchanaburi, Chumphon and Nakhon Si Thammarat, in the north, west, and south respectively. The Jannelsepan Formation forms part of the 1.30 to 1.24 Ga Areachap Group. It is a pre-tectonic calc-alkaline volcano-sedimentary unit in the 1.2 to 1.0 Ga Namaqua Sector of the Namaqua-Natal Metamorphic Province. The main rock types are amphibolites with subordinate clinopyroxene or biotite.
