Un primitivo Notonychopidae (Litopterna) del Paleoceno inferior de Punta Peligro, Chubut, Argentina

open access: yesEstudios Geologicos, 1997

Phylogenetic tree of Litopterna and Perissodactyla indicates a complex early history of hoofed mammals. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2020
AbstractThe Litopterna is an extinct clade of endemic South American ungulates that range from Paleocene up to late Pleistocene times. Because of their unique anatomy, litopterns are of uncertain phylogenetic affinities. However, some nineteenth century authors, considered litopterns as related to perissodactyl ungulates, a hypothesis recently ...

Macraucheniidae and Proterotheriidae (Mammalia, Litopterna) from Quebrada Fiera (Late Oligocene), Mendoza Province, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesAndean Geology, 2019
In this contribution we present new specimens of Litopterna recovered during the last decade in Quebrada Fiera (Mendoza Province, Argentina), whose fossiliferous sediments, currently recognized as the base of Agua de la Piedra Formation, are assignable to Late Oligocene (Deseadan South American Land Mammal Age).

Rise of placental mammals: the anatomy and phylogeny of the South American native ungulates with a focus in the order Litopterna

open access: yes, 2023
Placentals are the most preeminent mammalian lineage today in terms of diversity and distribution over the world, having over 6000 recognised extant and recently extinct species. The timing for the origin and diversification of Placentalia, and its relationship with the Cretaceous-Palaeogene (K/Pg) mass extinction event, is one of the key questions in ...

SKULL GEOMETRIC MORPHOMETRICS AND PALEOECOLOGY OF SANTACRUCIAN (LATE EARLY MIOCENE; PATAGONIA) NATIVE UNGULATES (ASTRAPOTHERIA, LITOPTERNA, AND NOTOUNGULATA) [PDF]

open access: yesAmeghiniana, 2013
Abstract. Three orders of South American extinct native ungulates are recorded from the Santa Cruz Formation along the Atlantic coast of Patagonia: Notoungulata (Adinotherium Ameghino, Nesodon Owen, Interatherium Ameghino, Protypotherium Ameghino, Hegetotherium Ameghino, and Pachyrukhos Ameghino), Litopterna (Theosodon Ameghino, Anisolophus Burmeister,

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Paleontologia, 2020
Presence of Proterotheriidae (Mammalia, Litopterna) in the Pleistocene of the Bonaerian Pampas. The fossil record of Pleistocene Proterotheriidae is scarce. It is restricted to the species Neolicaphrium recens known from Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, and to Uruguayodon alius, from Uruguay.
