It has been selected for high biomass, digestibility, and seed yield in several regions of the northern United States.

The Effect of Oral Calcium Boluses and Subcutaneous Calcium Injection on Blood Metabolites and Milk Yield in Holstein Cattle Fed Anionic Diets

Oral calcium supplementation modestly improved early postpartum plasma ionized Ca and reduced ketone body concentrations, suggesting moderated metabolic benefits. No effects on milk yield and fertility were found. Further research with larger sample sizes may be warranted to confirm these findings.
